Vortex Summer Youth Theatre presents

You Can't Take It With You

by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart

Directed by Mick D’arcy

July 30 - August 7

Vortex’s Summer Youth Theatre presents You Can't Take It With You, a comedy by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart. You Can't Take It With You presents the world of an extraordinary family who live a celebration of individuality. Like a string of firecrackers, this play unfolds with sparkling surprises and jewels of non-conformity, honoring the values of authenticity and uniqueness in life. You Can't Take It With You is a delightful comedy that tastes like a piece of “homemade Love Dream candy” and looks like “the most beautiful red fire in the world”. Winner of the 1937 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Featuring a Youth Company of teenagers including: Cooper Acord, Hayley Armstrong, Colin Ashby, Joshua Braun, Rio Esquivel, Anjelica Hymel, Anissa L. McVea, Hannah Newcomer, Felipe Ramirez, Martin Ramirez, Harley Roberts, Wyndham Shortt, and Cassidy Timms. Adult guest actors include: Steven Fay, Emily Fagan, Tyler Mabry, and John McNeil.

Directed by Mick D’arcy. Scenic Design by Ann Marie Gordon. Costume Design by Talena Martinez. Lighting Design by Patrick Anthony. Sound Design by Sergio R. Samayoa.

SYT 2010 provides students with experiences in all aspects of theatre including acting, technical theatre, and publicity. Rehearsals and workshops are free to all participants. The Austin Chronicle lauds Vortex’s Summer Youth Theatre (SYT) as “The Best Theatre for Kids That Treats Kids Like Grownups”. Now in its 19th year, SYT has mentored hundreds of Central Texas students, teaming them with adult professionals to create many award-winning productions of great world literature including R.U.R., The Visit, Vitriol and Violets: Tales from the Algonquin Round Table, Machinal, Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities, The Frogs, and Moby Dick.

About the Director: Directed by Vortex veteran actor and director, Mick D’arcy. Mr. D’arcy has been a member of Vortex Repertory Company since 1991 and has appeared in dozens of roles, including SYT productions of Cyrano de Bergerac, Moby Dick, and Animal Farm. In 2007 he directed Terry Pratchett’s Wyrd Sisters for SYT. Mick has recently returned from an acting stint in New York City.

Summer Youth Theatre is funded in part by VORTEX Repertory Company, the City of Austin under the auspices of the Austin Arts Commission, and the Texas Commission on the Arts.
